On Repeat: VIBI’s “angeldies”

The Canadian singer-songwriter follows Building the Band, “wildwoman” and “killshot” with another release in a fast-moving 2026 run.

VIBI’s 2026 has been busy enough that “angeldies” feels less like a restart than another marker in a year that keeps expanding. The Canadian singer-songwriter, born Valerie Borghesi, has been building toward this moment for years, moving between intimate writing and polished pop with a voice built for a much bigger room.

A wider audience arrived after her appearance on Netflix’s Building the Band. VIBI performed Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” during the blind-audition phase, earning 18 likes from fellow contestants before her run on the show ended ahead of the final band formations.

The exposure did not replace her own catalogue. “killshot” arrived earlier this year, followed by “wildwoman,” and now “angeldies” gives that run another chapter while appearing as VIBI’s current artist pick on Spotify.

VIBI has said that storytelling matters as much to her as catchiness, and that she thinks about whether a song can translate to a live stage while she is writing it. That helps explain why her catalogue can move between diaristic detail and bigger pop architecture without making the two feel unrelated.

That balance is becoming easier to hear as the catalogue gets deeper. VIBI is past the “one to watch” stage, and at this point, the question is what she does next.
