Tyler Shaw
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Vancouver-born Chinese-Canadian singer-songwriter Tyler Shaw entered the national pop conversation with "Kiss Goodnight," which became a platinum Canadian single and helped earn him a 2014 JUNO nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. His 2015 debut Yesterday expanded that early momentum with songs including the gold-certified "House of Cards" and "Wicked," establishing Shaw as a durable presence in a Canadian radio-pop landscape increasingly shaped by streaming as well as traditional airplay.
Shaw's second album Intuition produced his biggest sustained radio run. "Cautious" went gold, while "With You" reached double-platinum certification and became the most-played single by a Canadian artist on Canadian radio in 2019. Intuition was nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the JUNOs, and Shaw's touring history broadened through dates with Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes and Alessia Cara. Rather than relying on one breakout, he built a catalogue of repeated Top 10 Canadian radio singles.
His later work expanded that visibility beyond conventional release cycles. Shaw co-led the ArtistsCAN charity recording of "Lean on Me" with Fefe Dobson during the pandemic, while his "abcdefu Romantic Version," released as "Love You Still," became a large TikTok-driven success and was certified platinum in Canada. Shaw's longevity gives him an important place in 2010s and 2020s Canadian pop, while his visibility as a Chinese-Canadian male pop artist adds another dimension to a mainstream industry in which Asian Canadian representation has historically been limited.
