Northern Dial Artist Profile

Travis Thompson

Burien, Washington, United States

Seattle-area rapper Travis Thompson grew out of the Pacific Northwest's youth-poetry and independent hip-hop communities, developing a style built around dense internal rhyme, humour and highly personal storytelling. Thompson is Diné on his father's side, with family ties to Fort Defiance, Arizona, and he has spoken about carrying that identity as one part of a broader personal story rather than reducing his work to a single cultural label. Early momentum came through local releases and live work before national attention expanded after his appearances around Macklemore's orbit and a 2017 performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Thompson's catalogue moved from independent mixtapes into projects including YOUGOOD?, Runaways and BLVD BOY, while collaborations with artists such as Macklemore, G-Eazy, Logic and KYLE widened his audience. His songwriting often returns to family, addiction, ambition, neighbourhood life and the tension between public success and the communities that shaped him. That grounded perspective also made him a natural fit for Reservation Dogs, where he appeared on screen and had music featured, connecting his rap career with one of the most visible contemporary Indigenous television projects in North America.

His ties to Indigenous hip-hop became even more explicit through collaborations with Canada's Snotty Nose Rez Kids, including the 2024 single "KALEIDOSCOPE," and through his inclusion in the 2026 documentary Turtle Island Rap alongside A$h Da Hunter and Toronto producer-rapper Wiidaaseh. Thompson's presence in Northern Dial's rotation broadens the Indigenous hip-hop conversation beyond national borders: his career links Diné identity, Seattle rap and collaborations with Canadian First Nations artists into the larger contemporary music network of Turtle Island.
