Starpainter

Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

Starpainter is a Lethbridge, Alberta band led by songwriter Joel Stretch, with a sound that keeps one foot in indie rock and the other in country. The group's 2026 album Cayenne Flowerbed was produced in Calgary with Chris Dadge and grew into one of Starpainter's most collaborative records. Bright acoustic guitars, slide guitar and loose, detailed percussion sit under songs about distance, routine, absence and the pull of home. Stretch has described Starpainter as a town band that can drift into country tones whenever it wants, and Cayenne Flowerbed leans into that freedom without sanding off the band's prairie character.
