Roch Voisine
Edmundston / Saint-Basile, New Brunswick, Canada
Born in Edmundston and raised in Saint-Basile, New Brunswick, Roch Voisine built a career that has moved between francophone and anglophone audiences for decades. His 1989 album Hélène became a major success in Quebec and France, with its title track establishing him as a star across the francophone music market.
Voisine continued crossing language lines with English-language work including I’ll Always Be There and Kissing Rain, while returning repeatedly to French-language recordings. Later projects such as the Americana series drew openly on the North American country, folk and pop music he grew up hearing near the New Brunswick–Maine border.
In 2026, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame selected Voisine for induction, recognizing a bilingual catalogue that has connected Canadian, Quebec and international audiences across several decades.
