Prozzäk

Prozzäk began as a side project for Jay Levine and James Bryan McCollum of Toronto soul-pop band The Philosopher Kings, but the duo's animated alter egos quickly became a phenomenon of their own. Levine voiced the lovelorn Simon while McCollum became Milo, turning romantic disappointment into brightly coloured dance-pop narratives that unfolded across songs, videos and cartoon imagery. Their 1998 debut Hot Show produced Canadian hits including "Sucks to Be You" and "Strange Disease" and went multi-platinum, making Prozzäk one of the most recognizable homegrown pop acts of the Y2K era.

Prozzäk paired sophisticated pop construction with a deliberately exaggerated emotional universe, and the animated videos fit perfectly with the MuchMusic and YTV culture of the period. Hot Show and its follow-up Saturday People generated six JUNO nominations between them, while songs such as "www.nevergetoveryou" extended Simon and Milo's serialized search for love. The duo also crossed into family pop culture through the Disney-linked compilation Ready Ready Set Go and the song "Get a Clue."

After a long hiatus, Levine and McCollum revived Prozzäk in the mid-2010s, releasing Forever 1999 in 2017 and touring to large nostalgia-driven audiences across Canada. Prozzäk's cartoon storytelling and self-aware heartbreak remain tightly associated with a specific moment in Canadian pop culture.
