Love Inc.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Toronto dance group Love Inc. brought together DJ and producer Chris Sheppard, producer Brad Daymond and vocalist Simone Denny at a moment when Canadian club music was pushing unusually hard into mainstream pop. Sheppard and Denny had already worked together in BKS, while Daymond brought additional writing and production experience. The trio's 1998 self-titled debut turned that background into national crossover success: "Broken Bones" became a major Canadian dance and radio hit, and Denny's commanding vocal made the group's house and Eurodance production immediately recognizable.
The follow-up "You're a Superstar" became Love Inc.'s most enduring song. It topped Canada's RPM dance chart, reached U.S. dance radio and later found a second commercial life in the United Kingdom, where a 2002 re-release reached the Top 10. The group's debut was certified platinum in Canada, and Love Inc. received JUNO recognition during the same period: "Broken Bones" was honoured as Best Dance Recording in 1999, while the group was also nominated for Best New Group. After Daymond's departure, Sheppard and Denny continued with the 2000 album Into the Night, whose title track and "Here Comes the Sunshine" extended the project into the new decade; Into the Night received another JUNO dance-recording nomination in 2001.
Love Inc. matters because its hits document a period when Canadian dance music could move directly from clubs and MuchMusic into national pop culture without losing its house-music identity. Sheppard's long role in Canadian dance radio and DJ culture, Daymond's production work and Denny's voice connected the group to a broader domestic club ecosystem rather than a one-off pop phenomenon. "You're a Superstar" has proved especially durable, resurfacing through later broadcasts, performances and reinterpretations, while the group's short catalogue remains a defining snapshot of late-1990s Canadian dance-pop at its most visible.
