Loud

Montréal, Québec, Canada

Montréal rapper Loud, born Simon Cliche Trudeau, became one of the artists who carried Québec rap from a strong provincial scene into a new level of francophone mainstream visibility. Before going solo, he spent years developing alongside Lary Kidd and producer Ajust in Loud Lary Ajust, building an audience for technically precise, slang-rich rap that moved naturally between French and English. His 2017 solo debut Une année record converted that underground credibility into a commercial breakthrough without abandoning the writing style that had defined his earlier work.

The album's singles made history inside Québec's radio and awards systems. "Toutes les femmes savent danser" became the first Québec hip-hop track to reach No. 1 on the province's BDS francophone radio chart, while "56K" won the 2018 SOCAN Songwriting Prize. Une année record earned the Félix for Hip-Hop Album of the Year and later won the 2019 JUNO Award for Francophone Album of the Year. The same period brought substantial touring in France, showing that contemporary Québec rap could travel across the wider francophone market rather than being treated as a purely local phenomenon.

Loud followed with Tout ça pour ça in 2019, sustaining the crossover through polished singles, major Montréal shows and another nationally visible album cycle, then continued with Aucune promesse and Douze sur douze. His significance is less about inventing francophone rap than about demonstrating its modern scale. Building on decades of work by earlier Québec artists, Loud helped make rap a routine presence on commercial radio, arena stages, certification lists and major Canadian award ballots while keeping a specifically Montréal linguistic identity at the centre of the music.
