Limblifter

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Limblifter began in Vancouver in the mid-1990s as a side project for The Age of Electric brothers Ryan and Kurt Dahle with bassist Ian Somers, but quickly developed an identity of its own. The self-titled debut produced Canadian alternative-radio staples including "Tinfoil," "Vicious" and "Screwed It Up," establishing Ryan Dahle's combination of crooked guitar textures, melodic power pop and idiosyncratic songwriting as the band's centre of gravity. When The Age of Electric ended, Limblifter became his primary long-term vehicle.

The 2000 album Bellaclava deepened that approach with songs such as "Ariel vs. Lotus" and "Wake Up to the Sun." Lineup changes became part of the band's history: Kurt Dahle and Todd Fancey moved into The New Pornographers, while Ryan rebuilt Limblifter around new collaborators for I/O in 2004. Across those changes, the group accumulated five Top 11 Canadian radio hits and three JUNO nominations, giving it a durable place in the country's alternative-rock network even without the scale of a conventional arena-rock career.

Limblifter's later catalogue has made that continuity clearer. Pacific Milk arrived in 2015 and Little Payne in 2022, while the band returned to regular live activity with a lineup centred on Ryan Dahle and bassist Megan Bradfield and, more recently, drummer Jeremy Taggart of Our Lady Peace. The group's longevity also mirrors Dahle's wider role as a producer, collaborator and member of Mounties. Limblifter matters as more than a 1990s radio memory: it is one of the connective projects linking The Age of Electric, The New Pornographers and several generations of Vancouver and Canadian indie rock.
