Ghostboyrj
Brampton, Ontario, Canada
Rohan White, who records as Ghostboyrj, was born in Toronto and raised in Brampton, where he began playing multiple instruments around age 12 before turning toward recording and production in his teens. Poetry and hip-hop became the bridge between those interests, and his involvement with Unity Charity helped deepen his understanding of hip-hop culture beyond simply making tracks. That grounding fed a style built around sample-driven production, boom-bap drums, jazz and soul textures and an emphasis on album-oriented underground rap.
Ghostboyrj's catalogue has developed through a steady independent release practice rather than a single commercial breakthrough. The 2021 project Elixir ++, made with producer Switch B and recorded in Toronto, established the collaborative, beat-focused direction of his work. Subsequent releases including just some beats, vol.1, Make Me Sick! and Remixology V2 have continued to blur the line between rapper and producer, while collaborations with artists such as The 6th Letter and Eyeda Sophia place him inside a wider network of Toronto-area independent hip-hop.
His importance is best understood at the scene level. Ghostboyrj represents a contemporary Brampton and Toronto underground that remains connected to older sample-based rap traditions while working through Bandcamp, home-studio production and direct independent releases. The value of the catalogue is not that it imitates a nostalgic boom-bap template, but that it keeps those production and writing methods active inside a younger GTA rap ecosystem that often receives less attention than the city's mainstream melodic and trap-oriented exports.
