Charlotte Day Wilson

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Toronto singer-songwriter, producer and engineer Charlotte Day Wilson emerged from the city's collaborative jazz, soul and alternative-R&B community with a deliberately self-contained approach to making records. Classically trained on piano and briefly a saxophone student at Dalhousie University, she began releasing solo music in the mid-2010s after earlier band work. The 2016 song "Work" became an early signature, pairing her low, resonant voice with sparse production, while the Stone Woman EP deepened a slow-burning style built around restraint, atmosphere and unusually tactile vocal arrangements.

Her 2021 debut album ALPHA expanded that language through gospel, folk, soul and adult-contemporary influences while bringing collaborators including BADBADNOTGOOD, Daniel Caesar and Syd into a record that still felt firmly authored by Wilson. She released the album through an independent imprint she controls, reinforcing the independence that has shaped both her creative and business decisions. Cyan Blue followed in 2024 with a lighter, more open production palette and received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, recognition that also highlighted the technical side of Wilson's work in a field where women remain underrepresented behind the console.

Wilson's importance to contemporary Canadian R&B is tied as much to process as to sound. She has become a trusted collaborator for artists including Kaytranada, Daniel Caesar, Nelly Furtado and BADBADNOTGOOD while maintaining ownership-focused, independent infrastructure around her own catalogue. That combination of songwriting, production, engineering and entrepreneurship gives her a distinct place in Toronto music: not simply a featured voice within the city's scene, but one of the artists helping define how a modern Canadian R&B career can be built and controlled from the studio outward.
