Charlotte Cardin
Montréal, Québec, Canada
Montréal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin developed from Québec television exposure into a bilingual pop career built around a low, immediately recognizable voice and songwriting that moves between soul, electronic pop, R&B and piano-led intimacy. After appearing on La Voix, she established herself independently through the Big Boy and Main Girl EPs before taking several years to shape her first full-length record. That patience paid off with Phoenix in 2021, an English-and-French debut centred on emotionally direct songs including "Meaningless."
Phoenix made Cardin one of Canada's dominant artists at the 2022 JUNO Awards. She won Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for "Meaningless," while Phoenix took both Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year. Rather than treating that domestic breakthrough as the endpoint, Cardin widened the scale of the project with 2023's 99 Nights. The album again won JUNO Album of the Year, reached No. 3 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart and produced "Confetti," a Canadian top-10 hit that also became her first entry on a U.S. Billboard airplay chart.
That trajectory is especially notable because Cardin has maintained an explicitly Montréal and Québec-rooted identity while moving further into English-language Canadian, American and European pop markets. Her catalogue treats bilingualism and genre fluidity as normal working conditions rather than novelty, and her international touring has expanded without severing the creative network around her hometown. By 2024, Billboard Canada named her its first Woman of the Year, reflecting how quickly she had moved from a strong Québec following to a broader international pop presence.
